We've been getting reports of dangerous driving behavior in the pick-up and drop-off lane.  Here are a couple of tips to keep everyone safe and sane:

During Drop-Off:
Time is your friend.  The closer you get to the 7:50 mark, the crazier it is.  Avoid the crazy by coming to school a few minutes earlier.
- When entering the pickup lane, pull all the way forward.  The pickup lane starts at the crosswalk, so if there is nobody else there, pull all the way to the crosswalk.  This allows the most number of cars to use the drop-off lane at once.
Do not cut in line; pull in behind the last car.  If that car is too far away from the door, wait for the car in front of you to move forward or pull away.
Do Not Get Out Of Your Car.  If you want to walk your student into the school building, find a place to park in the lot, or use street parking.
Use the curb lane to let your students out of the car.  Do not let your student out of the car in the driving lane, making them walk across traffic in-between cars.
- Once your student is out of the car, promptly use your signal and pull out of the pickup/drop-off lane.
- If you are dropping your student off on 23rd, do not let your student out by stopping in the middle of the street.
- If you decide to park at Enatai Neighborhood Park aka "Pit Park", please walk to the crosswalk slightly west of the park.  Do not jaywalk with your children across traffic.

During Pick-Up:
Do Not Get Out Of Your Car.
Pull forward to the first available slot.  This includes the striped area for emergencies.  It is okay to wait in your car in this area, because if there was an emergency, you would be able to move out of the way, because you'd be in your car.
When everyone pulls forward, pull forward too.  This allows any cars that are waiting on 25th to pull into the lot.
- If there are no available spots in the pickup lane, do not wait for and pick up your student from the middle of the parking lot.  Find a spot in the lot, or use street parking

ProTip:  There is lots of street parking on both sides of 23rd.  Before we had our new building, people would park all up and down 23rd, all the way up to 104th, and walk in to meet or drop-off their student.  That remains a pretty good option.

If you have questions about using the pick-up/drop-off lane, or if you have suggestions on how to make things better and safer for everyone, please email Principal Amy MacDonald or PTSA President Amy Hart.
