The 2019 Read-A-Thon is coming up!    Information packets will be going home in students' backpacks early next week.   Parents, please ask your student to see their Read-A-Thon packet! It contains FAQs, a calendar, a sample sponsor letter, a pledge sheet, and a reading log. All of these materials are also available to download and print from the Read-A-Thon page on our  website . Many thanks to those who have already signed up for one or more 30 minute shift at Fall Festival on October 25!  As of this morning, about 55% of the spots are signed up. Last year, our PTSA Staff Representatives and our Principal came to the Enatai PTSA Board requesting funding to help teachers purchase culturally responsive books to add to their classroom libraries. Why are culturally responsive books so important?  Classroom books and other materials should represent the interests of the students and reflect the diversity of students within the classroom. Scholastic Fall Book Fair is coming again February 3rd-7th.  Last book fair many families found that the eWallet was an easy, secure, cashless way for their students to shop the book fair. Starting TODAY  January 17th , you can create an  eWallet  with the amount you select as a spending limit for your student. Your spending limit will appear as a temporary hold (or pending charge) on your credit card.   Enatai families turned out in big numbers to see  Toy Story 4  at the first Movie Night of the year last Friday, with a record 148 kids entering the prize drawing for The Movie Night Sofa. Helping to draw the winning ticket was a special guest, alumnus Darla Vail. Mrs. Vail started in 5th grade at Enatai in 1953 when the school first opened.  Congratulations to the Wan family! Fifteen parents turned out to the Enatai Library Tuesday evening to hear Special Agent Pete Vogl from the  Washington Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force  of the Seattle Police Department talk to us frankly about Internet Safety with our pre-teens. We had a lively discussion that we hope can continue throughout our community! Rick Hartman,  the Toymaker,  visited the 4th graders this past Thursday. The students are starting their science unit on Magnetism and Electricity. Students did some "hands-on" learning about  energy forces  by making a spinning top with a homemade motor.     Experiences like these are supported by the  Enatai PTSA  thanks to Parent/Student participation in our fundraisers. Our  Fall Festival and Haunted House event  is coming on October 25th!   This is a not-to-be-missed community event showcasing booths from each grade with free games and activities for the whole family, pizza dinner, and the 5th Grade Haunted House! What's the food share program?  The Washington School Food Share Program was developed to help prevent and minimize wasted food in schools, and redirect consumable food to those who need. Enatai Elementary along with 9 other BSD elementary schools (Puesta del Sol, Spiritridge, Woodridge, Medina, Eastgate, Somerset, Cherry Crest, Newport Heights and Lake Hills) to helping recover food from the cafeteria and share it with those who need it most in our community.  Parent volunteers delivered the collected food to the Bellevue Hopelink Food Bank.   How much food has been recovered?  Since September Enatai Elementary collected approximately  1,789 pounds of food .   Thank you Parents, Staff and Bellevue Fire Department Ladder Truck 107 for making the Egg Drop Challenge a success at Enatai this year!    We had over 157 projects entered.  The students, staff and parents enjoyed watching the projects being dropped from the fire ladder during the student's lunch recess.  Just over 40 projects had a successful drop without cracking the egg.
